Wellington Orienteering Club is the largest orienteering club in the lower part of the North Island of New Zealand. It currently has a membership of about 150 including a large number of families. The club's top orienteers are extremely competitive at both national and international level.
Club events are held roughly every 2 weeks from February to November. These include events in the Wellington Orienteering Association's Orienteer of the Year competition and the Wellington Secondary Schools competition. On average, the club also organises a national level event every year. In 2009 we will be running the WOA Championships in November.
The club possesses maps of approximately 25 areas. These range from the technically demanding forested sand-dune terrain on the west coast of the lower North Island; through steep, and frequently rocky, farmland closer to Wellington; to small areas of forest and native bush in the Wellington City Town Belt.
The club is run by a committee which meets monthly at member's homes. Social events are held throughout the year.
